Kolin Forecasts Annual Shipment of 1.2 M. LCD TVs This Year

2007/12/03
Taipei, Dec. 3, 2007 (CENS)--Thanks to strong sales of liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs sold on Black Friday in the U.S., Kolin Inc., a Taiwan-based maker of household electronics, projects its shipment of the products to sharply surge to 1.2 million units worldwide this year, according to company sources.

With increasing demand for upgrading cathode ray tube TVs into digital flat TVs among consumers in the U.S., Kolin`s LCD TVs, sold under Olevia-- brand of its U.S.-based partner Syntax-Brillian, have been widely well received in the market.

Besides, Olevia has built its solid name via a series of promotions, including debuting its LCD TVs on U.S.`s major sport channel ESPN, effectively adding fuel to product sales.

James Li, president of Syntax-Brillian, noted that sales of Olevia-branded LCD TVs already broke 120,000 units on Black Friday alone in the U.S., tripling from the corresponding figure posted a year earlier, and expects its annual sales to reach between 1.1 million and 1.2 million units all around the world this year, with 70% sold in the U.S.

Syntax-Brillian is a listed company in the U.S.`s NASDAQ Stock Market, and has teamed up with Kolin, with the former engaged in promotion, and the latter in production.

Li said that according to sales data collected from large-sized wholesalers and distributors in the U.S., including K-Mark, Target, BestBuy, Circle City and Sears, Olevia-branded LCD TVs, all of whom sold 120,000 units on Black Friday by offering prices 10-20% off from wholesalers and distributors.
