Taipei, Jan. 3, 2008 (CENS)--In 2007 alone, global shipments of Wi-Fi chips will likely total 300 million sets, around 41% higher than 2006`s number, according to market research organization In-Stat and the non-profit Wi-Fi Alliance.
In 2006, global shipments of the chips were 213 million sets. In-Stat and Wi-Fi Alliance, a non-profit organization driving the adoption of the wireless local networking technology, issued the bullish forecast in light of thriving consumption of the chips, which are mostly embedded in consumer electronics including mobile phones and personal computers.
In-Stat estimated shipments of consumer electronics and mobile phones embedded with Wi-Fi chips will likely top 700 million systems in 2010, outnumbering Wi-Fi notebook computers.
Wi-Fi platform based on 802.11g standard began entering several newly-introduced notebook computers, mobile phones and game consoles in 2007. The speedier 802.11n Draft 2.0 version has even snatched up 9% of Wi-Fi market.
In-Stat`s market specialists estimated Wi-Fi technology will go into more consumer electronics in 2008 after entering notebook computers.
