Taipei, Aug. 14, 2008 (CENS)--Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd., Taiwan Mobile Corp., and Far EasTone Telecom Co., Ltd., Taiwan`s top three telecom carriers, have recently introduced mobile cartoon service, which allows their cellular subscribers to download comic strips from content sites their partners offer.
In the new service, Taiwan Mobile has entered into alliance with Turner Cartoon Network of the Time Warner Group, Far EasTone has partnered with Tongli Publishing Co. and Sharp Point Publishing Co., Ltd. and Chunghwa has teamed up with Tongli.
The collaboration with Taiwan Mobile in this case is Cartoon Network`s first entry into mobile cartoon service. Cartoon Network will first make its Powerpuff Girls cartoon, its Chinese version of mobile sites and intelligence quotient game sites available on mobile phones.
Turner`s executives for Asia Pacific operation pointed out that mobile phones command higher market penetration as compared with broadband service and Taiwan`s cartoon population has similar quality as Japanese cartoon population, implying the reason behind his company`s cooperation with Taiwan Mobile.
Taiwan Mobile`s executives estimated the two companies` cooperation in the new business sector to bring their company more business than its on-line gaming service. The company charges subscribers NT$35 for each download of stories and frees them from transmission fee. The subscribers are eligible to re-browse downloaded stores free of charge in 7.2 hours of first download.
Far EasTone charges less, at NT$15, for each download and frees the subscribers from transmission fee. Each download allows subscribers to keep the stories on phones for three days. To entice subscribers to use the service, the company offers free first download.
Chunghwa charges subscribers to the service only beginning second download and the charges range from NT$10 to NT$35.
The three service providers pointed out that all stories will come mute in initial stage of the service.
