Intel`s New Products to Spur Consumer Demand for NB PCs

2008/08/19
Taipei, Aug. 19, 2008 (CENS)--Intel Corp., the world`s leading developer of computer processors, is going to debut its 45-nano Hehalem and Atom series processors and new notebook PC platform Calpella at IDF (Intel Developer Forum), running Aug. 19-21 in San Francisco, the U.S., according to company sources.

The debut of these new products will bring big changes to existing specifications of PCs and related products, and will probably stimulate consumer demand for desktop PCs, notebook PCs and MIDs (mobile Internet devices) worldwide in the future.

In fact, after posting handsome sales revenue in the second quarter, Intel has been optimistic about market prospects for the PC industry in the second half of this year, and has announced several new products for launch either this year or next year.

One of the biggest hits with this year`s IDF is Intel`s Nehalem (Corei7) processor, which is the firm`s first Quad-core processor, slated for launch in the fourth quarter of the year. The Quad-core processor is especially suitable for video game software and will totally replace all Intel`s existing processors for desktop PCs next year.

However, the most notable product to be debuted in the forum is the sixth-generation Centrino platform, Calpella, which is compatible with the newest Nehalem series processor and WiMAX (worldwide interoperability for microwave access) wireless network and features improved technology for data security. Also, Intel is to launch the next-generation Atom processor at IDF, which is mainly used in MIDs and outperforms old Atom series in energy efficiency.

On the other hand, Taiwanese suppliers are likely to benefit from Intel`s move to debut these new products, including notebook PC brands as Acer and Asus, notebook suppliers as Quanta Computer Inc., Compal Electronics Inc., Inventec Corp. and Wistron Corp., EMS (electronics manufacturing service) suppliers as Hon Hai Group, power supplies supplier as Delta Electronics Inc., DRAM suppliers as Powerchip Semiconductor Corp. and ProMOS Technologies Inc., display panel producers as AU Optronics Corp. and Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp., analog IC (integrated circuit) designers as Richtek Technology Corp. and Anpec Electronics Corp., and network device producers as Gemtek Technology Co., Ltd., and ZyXEL Communications Corp.
