Taipei, Sept. 8, 2008 (CENS)--AU Optronics Corp. (AUO), the largest thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panel manufacturer in Taiwan, recently was honored with the 2008 Green Package Design Award by Taiwan`s Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) for its green packaging design.

With the "paper cushion structure for LCD TV panel package", AUO is the only non-specialized packaging company to win this award.

Main features of AUO`s new packaging design include reduced cushion space within panels to increase loading panels per carton; reduced packaging-material usage; and upgraded transportation efficiency. In addition, AUO said, the strengthened structure design can withstand high pressure and stack up to 1.5 floors high, helping customers save on storage space.

The packaging material is made from corrugated paper therefore completely recyclable. Without any glue, it is easy to take apart and at the same time resists damage from falls or drops from all directions. This patented new design (in Taiwan, mainland China and the U.S.), according to AUO. fits in the standard of green packaging--saving resources, recycling and lowering pollution and logistics cost.

The panel supplier claimed that the "AUO Green Solutions" initiative targets to optimize transportation efficiency by simplifying packaging material and reducing space. The award proved its commitment to the green environment with innovative technologies AUO added.
