AU Optronics Corp. Names New CEO

2008/10/31
Taipei, Oct. 31, 2008 (CENS)--AU Optronics Corp. (AUO), the largest thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panel manufacturer in Taiwan, recently named L.J. Chen, incumbent president and chief operating officer (COO), as its CEO starting the first of 2009, while the incumbent CEO H.B. Chen would be the vice chairman.

AUO pointed out that it has been implementing corporate governance for years, and has reorganized its corporate-structure many times. The leading panel supplier believes that the structure of the top management team should be planned in advance and restructured in steps. In line with such policy, L.J. Chen was appointed president and COO as of September 2007.

Through L.J. Chen`s outstanding leadership, such as the deployment of the "AUO Green Solutions", AUO claimed that the company had already become a stronger player in the market, while the management team had proven themselves ready to assume even-greater responsibilities in the future. Therefore, according to originally planned schedule, L.J. Chen would be promoted to the position of President and CEO, and expected to lead AUO into a new era.

Effective on January 1, 2009, AUO said, H.B. Chen would continue to dedicate his time and efforts to being the vice chairman of AUO, as well as chairman of Lextar Electronics Corp. (a LED-chip developer and manufacturer) and Welllypower Optronics Corp. (a major cold cathode fluorescent lamps, or CCFL, maker), respectively.

In the future, H.B. Chen will be responsible for the long-term business and strategy development of AUO and its affiliated companies, as well as the coordination between business partners so as to enhance AUO group`s integrated competitiveness in the future.

H.B. Chen, according to AUO, has successfully accomplished a variety of organization changes and two major mergers since AUO`s establishment 12 years ago. He also set a very good example at AUO for his generous experience sharing with successors, the panel maker said.
