Promise Technology Wins Apple`s Order for RAID Systems

2009/03/13
Taipei, March 13, 2009 (CENS)--Taiwan-based Promise Technology, Inc., a global leader in the storage industry and an innovator of RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) technology, recently announced that Apple Inc. has ordered its VTrak E-Class family SAS/SATA based RAID storage systems.

Promise Technology launched the Vtrak E-Class family products in early 2008, helping it enjoy a 50.1% year-on-year revenue last year though sales in the fourth quarter suffered some impacts.

James Lee, chairman of Promise Technology, said that the Vtrak E-Class family products are the only RAID equipment certified by Apple compatible to its software and hardware. He added that his company would continue to develop the best RAID systems for Apple Mac users.

Promise Technology`s VTrak E-Class is a family of intelligent, high availability SAS/SATA based RAID storage systems that fundamentally changes storage economics from purchase and set up to operation and upgrades. In addition to supporting the Bonjour, a network discovery technology developed by Apple, the Vtrak E-Class RAID systems can be installed with hard disk with capacity up to 1TB (terabyte). So a 3U system, for example, can have a storage capacity of up to 16 TB.

Promise Technology registered revenue of NT$118 million (US$3.4 million at US$1: NT$35) in January, down 13% from December of 2008. The firm expects its new products can gradually ramp up revenues quarter by quarter this year.
