LG Unseats Sony as No.1 in Taiwan`s LCD TV Market in April

2009/05/26
Taipei, May 25, 2009 (CENS)--LG, a world-caliber consumer electronics brand based in South Korea, posted a 13% share of the Taiwanese market for LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs in April, effectively unseating Sony as No. 1 brand in the market for the first time, according to LG Taiwan.

LG launched three 32-inch LCD TVs last year in Taiwan, including one high-end model and two low-to-middle-end ones. This year, the brand is planning to focus on promotion of 42-inch, high-end models in the market.

LG Taiwan noted that LG expects a 10-15% annual growth in its sales of LCD TVs in Taiwan this year, and, encouragingly, has already achieved a 15% sales surge over the first four months due mainly to LG-branded LCD TVs some NT$5,000-10,000 cheaper than those of Sony-branded models per unit depending on screen sizes. This has helped the brand command a 13% share to lead the Taiwanese market in April, when Sony posted a share of only 11.7%.

Also, LG has been increasingly wielding its influence in Taiwan`s mobile phone market, as the brand pushed up its market share to 11.7% in April from 8% in January, effectively outselling Motorola as the fourth-largest brand in the market.
