Solar Industries Across Taiwan Straits Advised to Form Alliance

2009/06/29
Taipei, June 29, 2009 (CENS)--Chinese Renewable Energy Society Chairman Shi Dinghuan yesterday advised the solar energy industries in Taiwan and mainland China to form alliance and utilize their complementary advantages to tap the international market.

Shi, who is also a counselor of Chinese State Council, made the statement in Taipei when meeting Chairman Rock Hsu of Taiwan`s government-backed China Productivity Center (CPC).

Shi will attend a forum jointly hosted by his organization and CPC in Taipei today and tomorrow. He noted that the mainland is developing renewable energies with full effort by using its rich natural resources and low production costs, while Taiwan is very experienced in internationalizing its solar-energy industry. By making most of the complementary advantages, the solar-energy industries in Taiwan and the mainland can form the world`s best industrial alliance.

Shi added that the economic downturn poses not only crisis but also chances to various industries including solar energy, as major economies are drafting new development strategies for industries. For instance, the mainland is transforming its industrial structure to get rid of its high-polluting and energy-guzzling industries while planning to raise renewable energy to account for 15% of the mainland`s total energy consumption in 2020. The Obama Administration of the United States is also pushing renewable energy policy.

Shi pointed out that global output of photovoltaic industry is about 6,000 terawatts a year, with the mainland and Taiwan together accounting for a half.

Shi said he will visit Taiwan`s solar-energy manufacturers during his stay in Taiwan to discuss cooperation deals.
