Taipei, Dec. 17, 2009 (CENS)--Expecting a bright outlook for cloud computing technology, Dell Computer Corp. will boost the number of engineers to a total of 600 at its R&D lab in Taiwan to devote more energies to development of the hottest technology, according to the firm.
The R&D lab in Taiwan was established in 2001 and is remarkable for its contribution to development of all Dell`s consumer and enterprise notebook PCs. Recently, the lab is increasingly focused on DCS (data center solution) and related technical applications as Dell`s most important booster in development of could computing technology.
Cloud computing has been a buzzword in the IT (information technology) industry for a time, with Dell having been devoted to the field since setting up in 2007 a DCS team to develop cloud computing technology-based products and solutions as the most active in the line. So far, the firm has worked out 10-plus solutions for over 5,000 enterprises worldwide to use. Succeeding in carving out niches in the segment, the firm is comparatively optimistic about the future of the technology.
Although cloud computing requires a bumper crop of servers with standardized, modest specifications when working, Dell has zeroed in on the segment for customized models so far, mainly because the firm insists on providing designed-to-order production and services instead of built-to-order one.
To take advantage of Taiwan`s cutting-edge IT capability to tap the segment, Dell has decided to expand its workforce in the lab on the island to boost R&D momentum. The lab has worked out seven PowerEdge series servers for Dell and will extend its effort to development of blade servers next year, according to Dell.
