Asustek Reported to Raise 2010 NB Shipment Goal

2010/04/22 | By Ben Shen

Taipei, April 22, 2010 (CENS)--With first-quarter shipments exceeding expectations, Asustek Computer Inc., one of Taiwan's leading contract manufacturers of notebook PCs, has reportedly raised shipment goal by 40% to 2.2 million from the original 1.6 million for 2010, showing the maker's attempt to vie to be a top-three NB brand in 2011, which Asustek refuses to comment.

Asustek saw shipments of NBs hit a historic high, surpassing the highest record registered in October last year. The company saw cumulative shipments of NBs and Netbook computers amount to four million in the first quarter of this year. With shipments anticipated to grow 10% in the second quarter from the preceding quarter, the company will be able to ship between 8.4 million and 8.5 million units of NBs and Netbook computers in the first half of this year.

Asustek estimated it will ship twice as many conventional NBs to total between 13 million and 14 million this year. Affected by the slowdown in the world's small Netbook computers, the company estimated it would ship six to seven million "Eee PC" this year, or 20% to 30% of its total shipments.

An institutional investor predicted Asustek will see second-quarter shipments grow 10% from the preceding quarter to reach 4.4 to 4.5 million units.
