Taipei, May 11, 2010 (CENS)--The Taiwan-based Quanta Computer Inc., the world's second-largest notebook PC maker now, reported sales revenue of NT$97.015 billion (US$3.07 billion at US$1: NT$31.5) and shipment of 4.5 million notebook PCs for April, both hitting single-month highs, and is expected to take over Compal Electronics Inc.'s No. 1 position in the line this month, according to institutional investors.

Aided by the launch of new Calpella platform-based notebook PCs and increasing contract orders from the world's second-largest PC brand Acer, Quanta saw its sales revenue and shipment for April rise by 5.1% and nearly 10%, respectively, from March, and is very likely to achieve its shipment projection of over 13 million notebook PCs for the second quarter of this year, around 20% more than the corresponding figure posted in the first quarter.

Institutional investors also project the firm's notebook PC shipment to grow quarter by quarter to more than 50 million units for entire the year.

In the meantime, however, Wistron Corp., the world's third-largest notebook PC supplier, recorded combined revenue of only NT$44 billion (US$1.39 billion) and shipment of 2.4 million notebook PCs in April, declining by 18.8% and 20% from March. What's worse is that the firm's shipments of desktop PCs and LCD monitors for April were both down from the corresponding figures posted in March. Fortunately, the firm shipped 16% more handsets and LCD TVs in the month.

With the Greek debt crisis that affecting the finances of the European Union countries and the consumer market there, Asustek Computer Inc. suffered a 10% and 12% decline in notebook PC shipment and sales revenue of NT$27.9 billion (US$871 million) in April, and expects its overall notebook PC shipment (with Eee PC netbook PCs included) to slightly grow by 5-10% in the second quarter of the year.
