Taipei, July 22, 2010 (CENS)--Due to pre-Xmas orders placed early, Taiwan`s four large contract manufacturers of NB PCs, namely, Quanta Computer Inc., Compal Electronics Inc., Wistron Corp., and Inventec Corp., are expected to ship 42.3 million NB PCs in the third quarter for a projected quarterly growth of 15%, contrasting the 8% in the second quarter.

In June the said four companies delivered 13.15 million NB PCs for a monthly rise of 7% or 900,000 units, yet the shipment volume still lagged the predicted 13.3 million.

Thanks to growing orders from Apple, Hewlett Packard (HP) and Lenovo, Quanta`s shipment surged a quarterly 25% to 13.7 million NB PCs in the second quarter, exceeding the original expectation of 15%-20% and the corresponding 12.3 million NB PCs recorded by Compal to lead Taiwan`s NB sector.

However, Acer and Asus, Taiwan`s two leading computer brands, both witnessed a monthly drop of 12% in shipment in June. Nevertheless, Acer said orders have been received for the next two months, so shipment in the third quarter might reach the quarterly growth goal of 10%-15%.
