Green lighting focusing on LED technology took center stage at the 12th China (Guzhen) International Lighting Fair & LED Application Show, which was held on Oct. 18-21, 2013 at the just-opened Guzhen Convention and Exhibition Center, Guangdong.

This year, the show drew a record 550 exhibitors to display their latest products in 1,500 booths. The 30,000-square-meter showground was divided into sections for decorative lighting, brand lighting, and professional lighting.

Mainland China's first lighting industry executive summit and first lighting industry intellectual property forum were held on the sidelines of the show. Regular events included an LED lighting design forum, LED applications and standards forum, and LED indoor application forum.

The fair also hosted a lighting-fixture design competition and a boutique lighting competition.

For the first time this year, the lighting fair was accompanied by displays at three additional lighting venues in the neighborhood, respectively named Lighting Era Center, Besun Lighting Plaza, and Taigu Lighting Plaza. These three places together hosted around 1,000 exhibitors.

At the lighting fair's opening ceremony, the Guzhen Township Government and Shanghai UBM Sinoexpo International Exhibition Co. announced the joint establishment of an exhibition company to organize the Guzhen lighting fair beginning next year, taking over from the township government. The joint venture is tasked with meeting the ambitious goal of building the show into the world's No.1 lighting event.

Also at the opening ceremony, Guzhen signed an agreement with neighboring Henglan Town to cooperate in fortifying and enhancing the advantages which have drawn the lighting industry to cluster in the two towns, and in strengthening the lighting fair.

Guzhen's township chief, Wei Hongrui, said that his government will make the most of the lighting fair to attract the world's and mainland China's best lighting R&D, consultancy, and service companies to move to Guzhen.

On the opening day, Guzhen also held a ground-breaking ceremony for a 73-story building, designed on the form of an European oil lantern, which will house a lighting museum in addition to other facilities.

Jiangxi SUNY-PS Energy Technology Co., Ltd. took advantage of the lighting fair to exhibit a number of color solar-cell components, monochrome solar-cell components, high-efficiency solar-cell components for aircraft, and solar-cell components for distributed-generation solar power plants.

Shenzhen Fluence Technology’s high-power thermal modules drew intense attention.

The company's latest products are color panels made to customer standards, including specifications, color, and layout. Its monochrome cell panels, rated from 0.1W to 10W, have proven more popular in the market than any competing product, and its 250W panels for distributed-generation power plants incorporate imported high-performance crystalline silicon with a sunlight conversion rate up to 18.8%. Its panels for aircraft are rated at 115W; using American-made crystalline silicon, they are capable of converting over 25.5% of sunlight to electricity.

Greatshine Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd. showed off its COB LED, high-power LED, SMD LED, and integrated LED packages at the show. The company particularly stressed the use of high-quality LED chips in its packages, delivering a high color rendering index and high luminous efficacy.

Greatshine's COB packages incorporate copper substrates, injection molding technology, and thermoelectric separation structures, providing such advantages as low thermal resistance, high reflection, uniformed light, and convenient secondary-lens design. The packages have been built into track lights, ceiling lights, flashlights, light bulbs, projection lights, and mining lights, among other types of lights.

In addition to copper substrate, the company also uses aluminum substrate and ceramic substrate to make its COB packages.

Shenzhen Fluence Technology Co., Ltd. released new thermal modules for LED projection lights and LED streetlights. The company specializes in thermal modules for high-power LED lights, including projection lights, tunnel lights, light bulbs, streetlights, track lights, downlights, and floodlights. Its H-family high-power module is the first made-in-China module for 500W lights.
