Chun Kung Optics Corp. Promotes ODM LED Lens

2014/06/05 | By Ken Liu

At the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition 2014, the Taiwanese lens maker Chun Kung Optics Corp. (CKO) will promote a series of ODM secondary optical lenses for LED lights, including PAR lamps, MR16 lamps, and streetlights.

The company is a contract supplier of LED lenses for international heavyweights including Cree Inc., Osram Opto Semiconductor Inc., Philips Lumiled Lighting Co., TSMC Solid State Lighting Ltd., and Lite-On Technology Corp.

CKO was founded in 2005 by a team of specialists in optical, mechanical and mold design as well as optical-plastic injection mostly trained at the National Taiwan University, the National Tsing Hua University, and the National Chiao Tung University. Some were former employees of the military technology R&D institute Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology.

They have helped the company build in-house integrated manufacturing, enabling the company to design lenses, develop injection molds, and inject lenses. To ensure manufacturing quality, the company adopts Japan-made injection machines.

CKO has won several patents from the United States, Taiwan, China and Japan for excellent performances of optical lenses. They produce illumination patterns exactly demanded by lighting-fixture makers, with light diffusing angle of only ±1-2 degrees, with highly even light diffusion.

The company's lenses for streetlights meet the U.S. Type I, Type II, and Type III standards.

The company initially produced only optical lenses for mobile phones, then began producing lenses for LED lighting when luminous efficacy for LED lights improved to 100 lumen per watt. It depends on contracts  with tailor-made molds for nearly 90% of revenue, with the remainder filled by contracts using off-the-shelf molds. (KL)
