Sustainable, Intelligent, Project Lighting Market Development and LED-tech Integration Are Themes at Guangzhou Int'l Lighting Show

Sustainable, intelligent and project-lighting market development and LED-technology integration were the four themes at the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition 2014, held June 9-2 at the China Import and Export Fair Complex.

At the opening ceremony, Lucia Wong, Deputy General Manger of the organizer Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Ltd., said: “Our persistent goal with the Guangzhou show has been to bring together all of these major players to share  their accomplishment and knowledge in sustainable and intelligent lighting development. I believe the 2014 show is an exemplary showcase of what Asia has to offer the world's lighting community.”

This year, the show drew 2,621 exhibitors from around the world across 21 halls on 225,000 sqm of venue.

This year the products were grouped into lighting fixture and accessories category; LED technology category involving drivers & controllers, wafers & chips, LED package, modules and components, and packaging materials; and manufacturing equipment and LED packaging materials category.

Prominent exhibitors of lighting fixtures and accessories included A.A.G. STUCCHI (Italy), Adata (Taiwan), ALANOD (Germany), BJB (Germany), Everlight (Taiwan), Fumagalli (Italy), GE Lighting (USA), Lextar (Taiwan), Neko Lighting (Switzerland), Philips (The Netherlands), RAMPF (Germany), SIMON Electric (Spain) and ZALUX (Spain).

LED technology exhibitors included APT (Hong Kong), BRIDGELUX (USA), CREE (USA), Citizen Electronics (Japan), Edison Opto (Taiwan), Epistar (Taiwan), Luminus Devices (USA), Meanwell (Taiwan), NXP (The Netherlands), Seoul Semiconductor (Korea) and Tridonic (Austria).

In the materials and equipment sector, leading exhibitors included Alpha (USA), Dow Corning (USA), Everfine (China), Konica Minolta (Japan), Labsphere (USA), LPKF (Germany), Topcon Technohouse (Japan) and WACKER (Germany).

Epistar, the world's No.1 supplier of blue LED chips by quantity, was a third-time exhibitor at the show. “There's a strong move towards integration within the LED supply chain. And at this show we can meet manufacturers from upstream, midstream and downstream of the supply chain, who can be our business partners and potential customers,” said, Mandy Huang MarCom Commissioner for Epistar's China subsidiary, Luxlite, adding that Epistar has fine-tuned its production process to provide solutions with greater efficiency and performance for LED-based lighting products.

 
Yongxiong Lee, Deputy General Manager of Guangdong ELX Lighting Co Ltd., said he is very confident about the Asian lighting market because consumer awareness of environmental protection is getting stronger and stronger each year, which helps immensely in developing energy-saving lighting solutions. The company was a four-time exhibitor this year.

Another interesting feature at this show was the five group pavilions that were organized by exhibitors from Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and the United States.

Organized by the Hong Kong Electronic Industrial Association, the Hong Kong Pavilion had eight manufacturers that were promoting Hong Kong's LED products in both China and the global market. The pavilion hosted a series of seminars to inform visitors on LED lighting technology and certification requirements, not to mention specification development of LED products.

Making its debut at the Guangzhou show, the Japan Pavilion was organized by the Japan Lighting Manufacturers Association (JLMA) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Guangzhou. The pavilion was shared by manufacturers of LED lighting, packaging materials, and inspection equipment, who promoted Japan's latest energy-saving technologies at mainland Chinese manufacturers.

The South Korea Pavilion, organized by the Korea LED Association and endorsed by Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency to house  10 exhibitors with displays of LED lighting solutions, signage, light boxes, modules, drivers, ICs, and heat sinks.

Organized by the Taiwan Lighting Fixture Export Association, the Taiwan Pavilion was once again ranked the largest group pavilion at this show, hosting over 40 exhibitors this year who showed a wide range of LED products, including decorative lighting, lighting fixtures, retrofit lamps, drivers and components.

The US Pavilion was in the fifth year, co-organized by the US Department of Commerce and US Consulate General Guangzhou, China, which promoted innovative, sustainable, and next-generation LED lighting products.

Also over 120 forums were held under the “Light-plus” title to offer insiders' views on various LED topics, including market penetration, technology development, product design. (KL)
