The Autumn 2014 edition of the HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair, the world's No. 2 lighting show, will take place on Oct. 27-30 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). A record number of 2,500-plus exhibitors from 37 economies have registered to display their latest lighting technologies.

Last year the fair attracted 2,360 exhibitors from 38 countries and regions, along with over 38,000 buyers from 144 countries and regions.

Mexico, Portugal, and Lithuania will be sending exhibitors for the first time. The organizer, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), has invited over 200 purchasing groups and representatives from 6,600 companies worldwide to attend the trade show.

The fair is a one-stop-shopping platform for lighting products, parts, and components for global buyers. Highlights include the Hall of Aurora, Advertising Lighting Zone, Commercial Lighting Zone, Household Lighting Zone, Lighting Accessories, Parts & Components Zone, Outdoor Lighting Zone, LED & Green Lighting Zone, Smart Lighting & Solutions Zone, and Testing & Verifying Zone.

The Hall of Aurora will demonstrate the power of branding through the hosting of over 490 top-quality brands this year, including CREE, Megaman, Neo-Neon, Panasonic, Philips, Ford, BJB, Citizen, EGLO, Fulham, Fumagalli, Seoul Semiconductor, and Viribright.

The LED & Green Lighting Zone will have more than 840 exhibitors showcasing LED lighting, energy-saving commercial and residential lighting for indoor and outdoor applications, store lighting, and architectural lighting.

The Advertising Lighting Zone is one of the few places where buyers will be able to see a full range of advertising-related lighting, including light boxes, display panels, signage, and others. The Smart Lighting & Solutions Zone will showcase on-off technologies, such as switch/control panels, that save time and energy. Manufacturers who tailor smart lighting solution packages will find an ideal platform here.

This year, 156 Taiwanese manufacturers have registered with the Taiwan-based China Economic News Service (CENS), the exclusive Taiwanese booth agent for the Hong Kong lighting fair, for a total of 315 booths. The registrants include the ProLighting Opto Technology Corp., Lextar Electronics Corp., Tons Lightology Inc., Aeon Lighting Technology Inc., Home Resource Industrial Co., Rise Lighting Co., HEP Tech Co., Nanya Photonics Inc., Yah Juang Lighting Technology Co., Edison Opto Corp., Ledlink Optics Inc., and V-Tech Lighting Corp.

The lighting fair is a go-to place to stay abreast of industry trends. Lighting products with high energy efficiency and long lifetimes are in growing demand because of environmental concerns. Decorative lighting has expanded from seasonal sets into domestic lighting products such as track lights, linear lights, and spotlights with novel designs. Another significant development in the industry is the booming market for DIY (do-it-yourself) hardware items and parts.

The My Favorite Lighting Products Awards will return to the show this year to promote quality, innovative, and stylishly designed lighting products in three categories: Architectural/Commercial Lighting, Decorative Household Lighting, and Outdoor Lighting. Winning products will be showcased throughout the run of the fair.

The Avenue of Inspiration, a first-time zone, will offer an exhibition ground for new designers and lighting startups. Also, a Small-Order Zone, designed especially for buyers with orders for five to 1,000 units of products, will host around 400 showcases displaying approximately 4,000 products.

On the sidelines, forums will be held on timely topics such as the outlook of the global lighting market, the latest standards and requirements for LED lighting, testing and verifying services in Hong Kong, and the latest developments in individual markets.

HKTDC Deputy Executive Director Benjamin Chau notes that the market for energy-saving lighting has increased sharply in recent years, due mostly to rising consumer awareness of environmental protection and the policies that many countries have adopted to encourage the use of energy-conserving products.  (KL)
