Taiwan Machinery Industry's Exports Up 52.1% Year-on-Year

Taipei, Oct. 22, 2010 (CENS)--Taiwan's machinery industry exported US$9.373 billion of machinery in the first seven months, up 52.1% from a year earlier, according to customs-cleared statistics compiled by the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI).

Machine tools ranked first with export value of US$1.549 billion, up 56.8% year-on-year. Plastics and rubber machinery came in second at US$643.35 million, up 64.4%. Special-purpose machinery was third with US$618.53 million, up 60.8%.

China led as the biggest export outlet by absorbing US$3.151 billion of Taiwan-made machinery in the first seven months, surging 93.7% year-on-year for 33.6% of the total exports. The U.S. was second with US$1.413 billion, up 30.2% and commanding 15.1%. Japan was third with US$498.85 million, up 14.4% and accounting for 5.3%.

Other major export outlets included Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, India, Malaysia, Germany etc.

The TAMI's tallies also show that Taiwan imported US$14.464 billion of machinery in the first seven months, up 95.9% from a year earlier. The major imports, in descending order, were machinery for ICs (integrated circuits) and semiconductor; special-purpose machinery; pumps, compressors and fans; engines and parts etc. (See table below)

Japan led as the biggest supplier by selling US$5.763 billion of machinery to Taiwan in the first seven months, up 76.2% from a year earlier for 39.8% of the total imports. The U.S. was second with US$3.229 billion, up 137.1% and commanding 22.3%. China was third with US$1.334 billion, up 76.1% and accounting for 9.2%.

Other major suppliers included, in descending order, Germany, South Korea, Switzerland, Italy, United Kingdom, and France.
