Taiwan's Contract Suppliers to See Sales Surge on Bright iPad2 Shipment Goal

2011/05/05 | By Ken Liu

Taipei, May 5, 2011 (CENS)--Taiwan's contract electronics manufacturers are estimated to see strong sales in the second quarter thanks to upbeat shipment goal for iPad2 tablets, which is set at seven million systems, up more than 50% from the first quarter.

The bright shipment goal sweeps out pessimistic views triggered by the lower-than-expected shipments of iPads in the firsr quarter, which reached only 4.69 million systems, and the delivery interruptions caused by the March 11 Sendai earthquake and tsunami.

Taiwan's contract suppliers related to iPad2 Foxconn Technology Group, Largan Precision Co., Ltd., TPK Holding Co., Ltd., Foxlink Group, and Catcher Technology Co., Ltd.

Lens maker Largan estimated its sales for the second quarter to be better than the first quarter as iPad2 calls for higher-end lenses than iPad does. Touch-screen maker TPK projected its sales for this quarter to rise 15-20% from last quarter.

The contract suppliers have even optimistically forecast ultimate iPad2 shipment would exceed nine million systems in the first quarter by counting in consumers who postponed their iPad purchases in the first quarter to wait for the release of iPad2, which was launched in late March this year.
