Avertronics Releases LED Greenhouses to Boost Revenue

2014/02/25 | By Ken Liu

Avertronics Inc., a leading manufacturer of wireless and cable-control module for lighting systems in Taiwan, recently announced plans to promote its LED-lit greenhouses this year as part of its diversification after branching out into smart lighting control system.

Company general manager, Austin Lai, predicts the company to win orders for at least 30 12-meter-long greenhouses this year from Japan, Hong Kong, and China, with each costing around NT$1 million (US$33,333).

He said demand for greenhouses is growing rapidly worldwide due to growing concern about food safety and rising living standard. Japan, for instance, had 120 greenhouses in 2012, almost triple from 2004's 34 houses.

Headquartered in Taichung, central Taiwan, the maker of intelligent wireless lighting control systems operates a plant each in Taichung, as well as Kunshan and Shenzhen of  China, with the “Avin” brand.

In addition to making horticultural  equipment, the company also uses its greenhouses to mass-produce vegetables, which last year generated revenue of around NT$3 million (US$100,000) for the company, double that of 2012, and is predicted to bring in NT$6 million (US$200,000) this year.

Lai pointed out that although an increasing number of local manufacturers have branched out into the horticultural-cultivation industry, most of them can not put out as high volume of vegetables as his company due to his company's use of its intelligent lighting control technology and cooperation with farmers.
