Proportion of Taiwan's Female Senior Executives Drops to 26% This Year: Grant Thornton

The proportion of Taiwan's female senior executives dropped to 26% this year from last year's 31%, ranking No. 5 in Asia and No. 24 globally and still higher than the global average of 24% by two percentage points, according to Grant Thornton International, an audit, tax and advisory firm.

Grant Thornton recently surveyed the workplaces of female senior executives in 43 countries and found an average of 24% of global female workers holding top-management positions.

According to Grant Thornton, the proportion of female senior executives in Thailand led in Asia last year, followed by the Philippines. However, this year the Philippines overtakes Thailand to top in Asia with its proportion growing to 40%; while China and Thailand closely follow with a corresponding percentage of 38% each.

However, advanced countries such as the U.S. and the U.K. have proportions of 22% and 20%, respectively this year, with the former ranking No. 37 and the latter No. 38. In the same year Japan is ranked No. 43 with 9% as females in the country are encouraged to stay home after marriage. (JL)
