Taiwan's 14 FHCs Profits Total NT$190.5B in First 7 Months
2014/08/25 | By Judy LiTaiwan's 14 financial holding companies (FHCs) posted after-tax profits of NT$190.527 billion (US$6.351 billion) in the first seven months, the highest of its kind on record and surging 42.9% year on year.
Yuanta Financial Holding Co. was the only FHC that did not release profit statement during the period, but the said aggregate profits were even higher than NT$170.756 billion (US$5.69 billion) gained by the 15 FHCs last year.
Cathay Financial Holding Co. and Fubon Financial Holding Co. remained the two most profitable FHCs. In July Fubon scored profits of NT$11.61 billion (US$387 million) and in the first seven months the profits amounted to NT$38.96 billion (US$1.3 billion), the highest among the FHCs and exceeded its full-year gains in 2013.
In the same month Cathay gained profits of NT$7.73 billion (US$257.67 million), which expanded to NT$38.33 billion (US$1.28 billion) in the first seven months to be the second highest among FHCs, also outstripping its annual record high profits of NT$30.7 billion (US$1.02 billion) in 2007.
In the same period CTBC Financial Holding Co. took the third place with profits of NT$30.823 billion (US$1.03 billion), for a whopping annual growth of 105.68% and its earning per share (EPS) stood at NT$2.1 (US$0.07).
China Development Financial Holding Co. attained profits of NT$1.801 billion (US$60.03 million) in July, a new monthly high since January 2011. In the first seven months its profits grew to NT$6.601 billion (US$220 million) for an annul rise of 28%. (JL)
