CPPCC Chairman Yu Responds Positively to Taiwan's CNFI Delegates

2014/08/26 | By Judy Li

 S. H. Hsu, chairman of Taiwan's Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI), recently led a group of 39 CNFI directors and supervisors to Beijing to build better treatment for Taiwanese manufacturers and enhance cross-strait trade.

In Beijing, Hsu and his group met Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), to express anxiety on behalf of Taiwanese manufacturers about the upcoming inking of free trade agreement (FTA) between China and South Korea. Hsu urged accelerating bilateral talks on the cross-strait commodity agreement so as to sign the accord for mutual benefit.

Yu responded positively to Hsu's appeal and assured that China would keep negotiating with Taiwan, also emphasizing that China's signing of the FTA with S. Korea would not immediately impact Taiwan's industries.

Hsu looks to the Chinese government to treat Taiwanese manufacturers as locals and help them upgrade in China, as well as granting of lower duties on Taiwan's export to China of  petrochemicals, LCD panels, autos & related parts, machine tools. He also suggested that industries on both sides further cooperate to explore global markets.

Yu said that the Chinese government has already been treating Taiwanese manufacturers as locals and will consider further opening the Chinese market and lowering tariffs. (JL)
