Taipei, Nov. 17, 2009 (CENS)--Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd. and the Fujitsu Group recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) over collaboration on electronic commerce, next-generation network, digital content and green information technology business.

The pact is part of Chunghwa Telecom's efforts to enhance cooperative ties with Japanese hi-tech manufacturers. So far this year, Taiwan's No.1 telecom service provider has invested some NT$60 million (US$1.8 million at US$1:NT$32) in Sony's Internet service provider, Sonet, for a 30% stake and signed an agreement with NEC to co-boost e-commerce and IT industries in Taiwan and Japan. In the near future, Chunghwa plans to work with Japanese internet-TV, digital-content and TV shopping service providers.

Fujitsu's procurements in Taiwan are estimated at NT$100 billion (US$3.1 billion) a year, on average, far exceeding its annual Taiwan revenue of around NT$21.4 billion (US$668 million).

Fujitsu's chairman, Michiyoshi Mazuka, said that Fujitsu hopes to strengthen cooperation with Taiwan's IT industry to tap the world market when he was received by Taiwan's President Ma Ying-jeou in July this year

Mazuka joined a Japanese trade mission to visit Taiwan last week. The mission hold talks with a Taiwanese trade organization over cooperation on e-commerce, digital content, cross-nation pay system, electronic book, Internet TV, cloud computing and green IT business.
