Taipei, May 4, 2010 (CENS)--Quanta Computer Inc., one of the largest contract notebook PC assemblers in Taiwan, recently estimated that its shipments in the second quarter would increase 15% to 20% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ), 5% to 6% percentage points higher than the overall market.

Some industry analysts pointed out that Quanta is expected to outperform major local rival Compal Electronics Inc. and win back its global lead in the second quarter.

Barry Lam, Quanta's chairman, said at his company's shareholder meeting that corporate registered net earnings per share (EPS) came to US$0.19 in 2009, the highest in the past 10 years.

C.C. Liang, vice chairman of Quanta, claimed that corporate operation results would enjoy steady sequential growth from the first quarter and the company's revenue is expected to outstrip US$31.35 billion this year, compared to US$26.32 billion in 2009.

Quanta had consolidate revenue of US$7.9 billion in the first quarter, down about 10% QoQ, translating into net profits of US$167.1 million. The company shipped about 11 million notebook PCs during the period, down only 3.5% QoQ.

Liang claimed that Quanta focuses mainly on higher unit-price notebook PCs and is scheduled to launch new products equipped with Intel's new Core i processors soon, helping to enhance corporate results in the second quarter.

The vice chairman said that parts shortage still exists, including graphic chips processors, dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips and passive components etc., but the problems can be overcome however.

Liang believes the global market is recovering and business replacement demand is expected to continue raising shipments. Quanta aims to meet annual shipment goal of 50 million notebook PCs this year.
