BenQ-AUO Group Eyes US$22 B.-beyond Revenue This Year: Chairman Lee

Taipei, Sept. 1, 2010 (CENS)--The BenQ-AUO Group's annual revenue is expected to outstrip US$22 billion this year, surpassing the previous peak in 2007, according to a top executive of the group.

K.Y. Lee, BenQ-AUO chairman, made the statement at the group's global distributor conference recently held in Taiwan.

According to Lee, the group's revenue hit a record high of US$22 billion in 2007 but the figure declined to US$21 billion in 2008 and US$18 billion in 2009. With more and more reinvested new subsidiaries or affiliates beginning to contribute revenues, Lee said, his group's revenue is expected to grow more than 20% YoY in 2010.

Industry insiders pointed out that the sales performance of AU Optronics Corp. (AUO), the second-largest thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panel manufacturer in Taiwan, would be a decisive factor in BenQ-AUO Group's aggregate revenue figure. In 2006, the group scored revenue of only US$16 billion, which immediately jumped to US$22 billion in 2007, representing a 37.5% YoY increase, after AUO merged another local panel supplier Quanta Display Inc.

Basically, the sources added, the global TFT-LCD market saw smooth sales in the first half, though there might be some doubts about the second-half performance, so AUO is expected to score revenue a little higher than last year's NT$359.3 billion (US$11.22 billion) at least.

According to Lee, BenQ-AUO will focus its future development on medical care, cloud computing, green energy, and environment protection etc.

BenQ-AUO group has opened a hospital in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province of China with more than 3,000 beds. The group is scheduled to inaugurate another big hospital by the end of 2011 in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province of China.
