HTC Debuts Two New Models in London

2010/09/16 | By Philip Liu

Taipei, Sept. 16, 2010 (CENS)--HTC, Taiwan's leading smart-phone brand, launched two new models in a presentation in London yesterday (Sept. 15), which will give the company's revenue in the fourth quarter a strong boost, in view of the warm reception to the models.

Along with the new models, HTC also debuted a free Internet service, dubbed HTCSense-com, which will enable subscribers to tap cloud-computing service offered by HTC. The service is similar to Microsoft's MyPhone service and Apple's MobileMe service. The service, for instance, enables owners to give directions to their lost phones via the Internet, such as making it ring, sending messages to the phone for the obtainer, locking up the phone, or even eliminating data stored in the phone.

The presentation is the fourth, as well as the largest, such annual event held by HTC in London, attracting over 400 attendees, including those from the press and representatives of the company's clients, including Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange, O2, KT, and Chunghwa Telecom. HTC reported that it has won orders for the two models from over 100 clients.

Peter Chou, CEO of HTC, pointed out that visibility of the HTC brand in U.K. has risen to 46%, up from mere 6% last year, and the average of its global visibility will also top 40% by year end, underscoring the entry of the brand into the consumption market, shedding the confinement of a commercial brand and smart-phone brand in the past.

Institutional investors remarked that the launch of the new models will enable the company to rack up over NT$30 billion revenue in September, a record monthly high. Plus the combined revenue of NT$48.8 billion in July and August, the company will be able to achieve the goal of NT$70 billion revenue and 6.5 million units of shipment for the third quarter, both record highs.
