Acer Debuts Cloud Computing Desktop Addressing Digital Home Market

Taipei, Nov. 22, 2010 (CENS)--Acer Inc. recently rolled out a desktop computer installed with its Acer Clear.f1 cloud-computing system as the company's first step into digital home market.

According to Acer's global vice president and general manager of business division, Xianlang Lin, around 10-20% of the estimated 70 million netbooks, desktops and mobile phones which Acer plans to ship worldwide in 2011 will go with Acer Clear.fi.

Lin pointed out that cloud computing has a broad business range and his company will initially focus on household market in light of high penetration of wireless Internet and broad bandwidth. The company's first cloud computing-enabled desktop, codenamed Acer Revo RL100, is equipped with a built-in wireless touch panel so that consumers can search, store and share data and music on TV screen.

Acer Clear.fi interface boasts easy installation, quick search, random access and enjoyable sharing, according to the company.

Acer Revo RL100 goes from NT$23,600 in retail. Lin estimated Acer would ship 1,000 of the desktop computer a month in Taiwan alone.

Lin noted that 130-140 million desktop computers are shipped worldwide every year and this computer has become diversified in accordance with different consumer groups. He concluded that desktop computer will never phase out based on the diversification trend.

Statistics released by IDC showed that Acer delivered around 6.5 million desktop computers throughout the first three quarters of 2010, up 16% from the same period of 2009. The market consulting firm estimated around 10 million desktops would be shipped worldwide in 2011.

Acer has recently added Wistron Corp. and Elitegroup Computer Systems to its list of contract suppliers of desktop computers.
