Hon Hai Inks MOUs With High-tech Companies From Silicon Valley

Taipei, Nov. 22, 2010 (CENS)--The Taiwan-based Hon Hai Group, the world's largest EMS (electronic manufacturing service) provider, has signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with 12 high-tech companies and three venture capital firms from U.S.'s Silicon Valley to jointly build technology-exchanging partnership and incubation centers in the future.

Terry Gou, Hon Hai Group chairman, noted that the group decided to join hands with these high-tech Silicon Valley companies and venture capital firms through signing these MOUs, as part of its efforts to step up business deployments in the segments of cloud computing, renewable energy and the Internet of things.

The three venture capital firms are NEA, Onset and DCM, and the 12 high-tech companies include Analogix, Audience, AuthenTec, Cavium, ClariPhy, Enovix, Pancetera, SandForce, SiBEAM, SiliconBLUE, Splashtop and Zenverge.

Noteworthily, the scope of business operations of these high-tech companies covers semiconductors, high-efficiency fuel batteries, ultra-high-frequency wireless communications, fingerprint identification systems, surface acoustic wave components, operating systems, and sensors. Obviously, this indicates Hon Hai Group's ambition to cash in on cloud computing, renewable energy and the Internet of things, especially when the group's major high-tech clients, such as Apple and HP, are also going to launch their new products built with those technologies in 2011.

In the three-party cooperation, the high-tech Silicon Valley companies, with financial support from the three venture capital firms, come up with innovative technologies and share them with Hon Hai Group via a cooperative platform and incubation centers. And then, Hon Hai, backed by its excellent R&D, manufacturing and global distribution capabilities and huge customer bases, materializes these technologies and markets them worldwide. In other words, from concept forming through product designing, mold developing, and product prototyping to manufacturing, testing and marketing can be completely handled by Hon Hai Group and its partners.

Greeting the form of the cooperation, Gou stressed that his group is to expand the number of partners signing such MOUs to over 1,000 in the future, in hopes of working out more cutting-edge technologies and products to stay ahead of its competitors, especially ones from northeast Asian countries.
