Compal to Supply 43% of Lenovo's NB PCs for 2013

Taipei, Aug. 23, 2012 (CENS)--Thanks to close partnership with Lenovo, the Taiwna-based Compal Electronics Inc., one of the world's top two laptop makers by shipments, is already contracted by the Chinese brand vendor to supply 43% of its needed notebook PCs for sale in 2013, according to industry sources.

Given the fact that Lienpal (Hefei) Ltd., a China-based joint venture between Lenovo and Compal, also shares 10% of Lenovo's order for 2013, a total of 53% of the Chinese brand vendor's laptops will be produced from the supply chain based on the Lenovo-Compal partnership in the year.

Accordingly, Lenovo informed its contract suppliers earlier that it aims to sell 35 million units of various laptops in 2013, with 30% of which set to be contract produced by Wistron Corp., 12% by Quanta Computer Inc., 5% by Pegatron Corp. and the remainder by Compal and Lienpal.

In light of persistently uncertain global economy along with the rise of tablet PCs to keep eroding global sales of traditional notebook PCs, industry insiders, however, opine that Lenovo's sales forecast for 2013 should be cut to a more reasonable level of between 32 million and 33 million units, still representing a 15% increase over 2012.

No matter whether Lenovo can achieve its sales goal, Compal has secured sustainable growth momentum for its laptop shipment in 2013 because it has been contracted by Lenovo and Dell to supply around 35 million notebook PCs in the year.

Affected by sluggish market demand for PCs all around the world, Compal posted a moderate growth of 2.3% in sales revenue of NT$165.05 billion in the second quarter of this year, compared to a quarter ago. With back-to-school sales boom to revive the market to some extent, the company is expected by institutional investors to score a 10% revenue growth in the third quarter.
