Taiwan's consumer confidence index (CCI) stood at 77.49 in the fourth quarter of 2013, the lowest among the four Chinese areas of mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao, according to a survey jointly carried out by four universities in the four regions.

The survey is conducted quarterly by Taiwan's Fu Jen Catholic University, mainland China's Capital University of Economics and Business, Hong Kong's City University of Hong Kong, and the Macao University of Science and Technology. The general CCI is a compilation of six sub-indexes: economic development, commodity prices, livelihood, employment, investment, and property sales.

Taiwan's CCI for the four quarters of 2013 were 77.2, 76, 77.39, and 77.49, respectively. In the fourth quarter property sales had the highest sub-index, at 104.56, and commodity prices scored the lowest, at 48.49.

In the same quarter, mainland China's general CCI stood at 91.3, down a marginal 0.2. Hong Kong's CCI was 83.9, and Macao's 86.3. (JL)
