SCI an Experienced Auto, Electronic Parts Maker

Established in 1953, Shin Chin Industrial Co., Ltd. (SCI) is one of the most respected electronics/auto parts manufacturers in Taiwan. The ISO9001- and QS9000-certified company has grown apace with the island's high-flying electronics and auto parts lines, becoming a leading producer in this segment with a wide range of products to offer.

SCI now supplies three major product categories, including auto parts and accessories (such as distributor caps and rotors, insulating plugs, automotive switches, automotive fuse holders, auto power adapters, and working lamps), switches (rocker, toggle, push-button, miniature, slide, and key switches), electric parts (fuse holders, knobs, sockets, plugs, tools for equipment, binding posts, banana sockets, banana plugs, IC clips, test prods, and tune needles), and consumer products (sensor nightlights, solar-cell traffic indicators, and soldering tools)

According to Sophie Ho, SCI's sales and marketing manager, SCI currently supplies over 1,000 types of switch products, which collectively account for about 60% to 70% of the company's revenue. In addition, the manger adds, auto-related products account for an increasing ratio of SCI's production and currently generates about 40% of the company's total revenue.

In Taiwan, SCI is the most-important supplier of distributor caps and rotors to all major tier-one auto-parts makers on the island. In the aftermarket parts sector, the company supplies about 400 distributor cap and rotor models, mainly for Japanese car models, making it one of the top-two such suppliers on the island. According to Ho, SCI is also planning to expand into production of ignition coils in the near future.

In the automotive market, Ho points out, her company has concentrated on development of a series of interior lighting systems (for buses, trucks and cars) with both traditional light bulbs and light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Over the years, the company has developed more than 30 interior light models and the number is rapidly increasing every year.

SCI exports about 80% of its products to North America to such major customers as Radio Shack, Pilot, and Tyco, and about 10% to countries in Southeast Asia. The company is constantly upgrading its quality and technical level with its strong technical background as well as through cooperation ties with major OEM and ODM customers in industrially advanced nations.

SCI now runs two production plants, including one in Taiwan with 135 workers and another in Huizhou, Guangdong province, mainland China with around 1,000 workers. The former plant is responsible for R&D as well as supplying new product items to local tier-one auto-parts suppliers, while the latter plant is in charge of the production of other items.
