Taipei, Nov. 4, 2003 (CENS)--A delegation of more than 20 importers and exporters organized by Lima Chamber of Commerce, Peru is to arrive in Taipei to attend the Seminar on Trade Opportunities in Peru and the Fourth Joint Taiwan-Peru Business Councils Meeting. The meeting is to be held in Taipei on Nov. 6, according to the Board of Foreign Trade (BOFT) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

The delegation is the largest of its kind ever dispatched from Peru and is reportedly to purchase a wide range of products here. BOFT said that Peru is one of Taiwan's top four trade partners in Latin America, and it is also Taiwan's seventh largest export market and fifth-largest import source. Over the past three years Taiwan's exports to Peru have enjoyed an annual growth of 15%-30%. With the growing trade, BOFT believed, the relationship between the two countries would become even closer.

During the meeting, Peru manufacturers will purchase many different kinds of products from Taiwan, including auto parts, household appliances & related parts, various machines, textile products, plastics, medical equipment, metal & wood furniture, stationery & gift products, toys, bolts & nuts, hot-roll & cold-roll steel, track lights, computers, computer software, mobile phones, and environmental protection high-tech products.

BOFT's statistics showed that Taiwan's products recording an annual growth of over 10% in exports to Peru last year included auto parts, synthetic fabrics, silk and cotton woven products, sewing machines, plastic plates, wired telephones and toys. On another front, the imported items from Peru with annual growth of 15% comprised cotton yarn, rude copper & copper alloy, marine products, dying stuff, and lumber.
