15 listed firms with assets exceeding NT$100 billion

Taipei, May 26, 2003 (CENS)--Fifteen companies traded on the Taiwan Stock Exchange each amassed assets valued over NT$100 billion. The state-owned Chunghwa Telecom tops the list with NT$459 billion assets, according to their latest financial reports.

Taiwan Semiconductor Mfg. Co. takes the second place with NT$363.2 billion. But the company ranks as the leading private enterprise with the highest asset value.

Trailing behind in order are United Microelectronics, NT$292.7 billion; Nan Ya Plastics Corp., NT$259.9 billion; China Steel, NT$199.4 billion; Formosa Chemical & Fibre, NT$181.2 billion; Formosa Plastics, NT$173.4 billion; and China Airlines, NT$168.2 billion.

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. ranks for the ninth place with NT$134.7 billion in assets, though the company has retained its position as the largest manufacturing enterprise in the private sector in Taiwan.

Following Hon Hai in asset value are Taiwan Cellular, NT$134.2 billion; AU Optronics, NT$123.9 billion; Quanta Computer, NT$118.4 billion; EVA Airways, NT$113.3 billion; Chunghwa Picture Tubes, NT$106.5 billion; and Far Eastern Textile, NT$103.6 billion.
