Taipei, May 2, 2003 (CENS)--The radio frequency department of Yageo Corp. has successfully developed the component modules for the new generation 'Centrino' notebook PCs from Intel, executives of the local passive components maker said yesterday.
Yageo has obtained an order for the above components from Asustek Computer Inc. recently. Monthly deliveries are now valued at between NT$20 million and NT$30 million, up several folds from the same period of 2002.
The revenue from notebook PC product lines accounts for a small ratio for the moment but it is meaningful as Yageo has ventured into the development of component modules in the notebook PC field while its radio frequency department also obtained orders from local mobile handset makers recently.
Market sources estimated that notebook PCs bundled with wireless network cards would reach a ratio of 30% in 2003, with the use of "Centrino" to command a market share of about 11.7%.
Asustek Computer Inc. is now the only local PC maker that has obtained OEM (original equipment manufacturer) orders for Intel's "Centrino" notebook PCs.
