Taipei, July 22, 2003 (CENS)--Yulon Motor will open a new used-car auction shop in Taichung today, affirming its status as the No. 1 dealer of second-hand cars on the island.

The Taichung used-car auction shop, occupying a floor area of 770 pings (each ping equals 36 square feet), is capable of conducting auctions of 400 used-cars at the same time, said officials of the shop.

With total capital input of around NT$100 million, the auction shop is the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, said the officials. The shop is projected to auction off 5,000 second-hand cars this year.

Yulon Motor, which also operates a second-hand car auction center in Taipei and Kaohsiung, respectively, is likely to sell off a total of 15,000 used cars in 2003 and another 20,000 units in 2004, said the officials.

The number of used cars traded in the first half of the year totaled 360,000 units, an increase of 15% from a year earlier, according to data released by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.

Total transactions of the second-hand cars are expected to hit 700,000 units by the end of the year, said auto dealers.
