Taipei, Aug. 21, 2003 (CENS)--Jean Co. said yesterday that the firm has obtained an order for 18.1-inch LCD TVs from Gateway of the U.S. recently.

The local LCD monitor maker will use LCD panels from Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd., a leading TFT-LCD maker in Taiwan. Jean now delivers between 3,000 and 5,000 LCD TVs per month.

Jean will also start the delivery of its 29-inch LCD TVs in the fourth quarter.

Jean has not yet made public its financial statement for the first half, but the firm was still in the red in the second quarter. It attributed the losses to the shortage of LCD panels.

Jean was also conservative about its sales performances for the second half as the supply of panels has concentrated on certain LCD monitor makers. The firm's real deliveries and revenue will depend on the supply of LCD panels.

In related news, Amtran Technology Corp., another local counterpart, said that its after-tax profit would reach about NT$200 million for an EPS of NT$0.55 in the second quarter. The firm will also deliver LCD TVs to both Sharp and Gateway beginning in the second half.

In the first half of the year, Amtran Technology scored pretax profit of some NT$370 million for an EPS of about NT$1.
