Synnex to Explore China's UMPC Market
2008/12/26 | By Steve ChuangTaipei, Dec. 26, 2008 (CENS)--The Taiwan-based Synnex Technology International Corp., a globally leading retail chain of 3C (computer, communication and consumer electronic) products, has recently been authorized to distribute Samsung and Asustek's UMPCs (Ultra-mobile PCs) in the China, enabling the firm to further explore the market with more comprehensive product lineups, according to company sources.
With UMPC increasingly gaining popularity worldwide, Synnex has actively focused its business operations in the market, and has successfully become franchised to retail the products under numerous brands, including Acer, KJS, HP and Lenovo, since the third quarter of this year. The effort has paid off as the retail chain has seen its sales of rapidly grow in the recent months.
Recently, Synnex announced that it has been licensed to distribute Asus and Samsung-branded UMPCs exclusively in China, and is starting selling the products. The distributor noted that UMPC has shown the strongest sales growth among PC product lines in 2008. Distributing UMPCs under Japanese, American and Taiwanese brands in China, where penetration rates of PCs are still low, will assure Synnex profitability in the future.
Synnex has more than doubled its PC sales to 1.19 million units, including UMPCs, in the mainland over the past 11 months of 2008 from 520,000 units sold a year earlier, and is very likely to achieve annual sales of between 1.2 million and 1.3 million units for entire the year. After building a comprehensive product lineup of UMPCs, the distributor is optimistic about its sales performance in the market in 2009.
