Tongtai Machine & Tool Co., Ltd., one of Taiwan's

At present, Tongtai's major product lines include high-speed vertical machining center, vertical column-type machining center, high-speed PCB (printed circuit board) drilling machine, high-speed drilling & Tapping machine for 3C (consumer electronics, computer, communications) aluminum magnesium alloy, high-precision horizontal machining center, and precision CNC (computerized numerically controlled) lathe.

Thanks to the booming sales of whole-line equipment used in the automobile parts plants and mold-making machines, the company anticipates it will be able to score outstanding sales performance this year.

Focusing on upgrading the performance of its product lines, the company has enjoyed high growth in sales of mold-making machines and vertical machining centers over the past few years. In the fourth quarter of last year, the company also saw unexpected outstanding sales in special-purpose machines, horizontal machining centers and production equipment for magnesium-alloy parts.

The company boasts its PCB drilling machines can compete with the top-grade products made in Japan and Germany in terms of operating accuracy and performance as its machines are reliable for the production of high-tier PCBs.

To meet influx of orders, the company recently inaugurated a new plant of 1.08 million square feet in Luchu of Kaohsiung County, southern Taiwan. The company has invested NT$700 million (US$21.34 million at US$1:NT$32.8) in the new plant.

Thanks to the establishment of core technologies, Tongtai has made great stride in elevating the accuracy and functions of its PCB drilling machines. Poised as the world's top-three manufacturers of high-end PCB drilling machines, the company will not only expand global market share, but will also lure the participation of talented technicians in this field from industrialized nations to continually enhance the establishment of core technologies.

Tongtai president Yen Jui-hsiung says his company has recently set up a product research and development center in Japan with an attempt to largely elevate its R&D ability as Japan is widely viewed as the world's R&D hub for precision machinery.

The company currently sells 55% of total output to overseas marketplaces. With the affirmation from customers in such industrialized nations as Japan, the U.S., and Germany, the company will aggressively increase the export ratio this year. (BS)
