Cheng Uei to Supply Connectors for Apple's Tablet PCs

Taipei, Dec. 30, 2009 (CENS)--With increasingly close cooperation with Apple Inc., Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co., Ltd., a large-sized Taiwanese maker of connectors, is reportedly to supply 80% of Apple's needed connectors used in tablet PCs, according to industry sources.

Industry insiders indicated that Apple is expected to hold a product presentation for its newest Apple Tablet PC on January 23, 2010, which is built with more than 20 units of connectors, with over 80% of the needed quantity in each of Apple's tablet PC to be supplied by Cheng Uei.

To fill Apple's order, Cheng Uei has set up highly automated production lines in accordance with the client's strict requirements. Allegedly, the firm has even introduced advanced robotic technologies into in its factory.

In the meantime, Cheng Uei has also started supplying to Apple external connectors used in netbook PCs, and will likely garner the client's new orders for the components for other purposes soon. Presently, Apple contributes about 25% to Cheng Uei's total sales revenue as the largest among the latter's existing clients, and has been developing more than 20 new types of connectors in cooperation with Cheng Uei, attesting to close partnership between the two sides.

Cheng Uei has ventured into production of connectors based on USB3.0 technical specifications as the foremost in the line, and worked with Intel on development of high-speed, high-frequency optical connectors. As Intel is to debut its Light Peak high-speed cable technology at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2010, slated for January 7-10 in Las Vegas, the U.S., Cheng Uei is also expected to land new orders from notebook PC manufacturers when attending the show.
