Taipei, Feb. 22, 2010 (CENS)--As the penetration rate of LED-backlit LCD monitors in Taiwan is expected to rapidly grow to 20% in 2010, BenQ Corp. will continue to launch new LED LCD monitor models this year, enabling the domestic firm to offer eight choices for consumers, according to Danny Yao, vice president of BenQ Asia Pacific and president of BenQ Taiwan.

LED monitors would account for 60% of BenQ's overall monitor production this year, making the firm a leader in such trendy product in Taiwan, Yao said.

Being light, thin and energy-saving, LED monitors have enjoyed rapid increase in market share. In Taiwan, penetration of LED monitors was less than 5% in 2009 as most major brands pushed only one such model, while BenQ unveiled 15.6-, 18.5-, 19-, 21-, and 24-inch LED-backlit monitors and won a 37.2% share of the segment last year.

BenQ also demonstrated its latest 18.5-, 21.5-, and 24-inch LED monitors early this year, making the vendor own most LED monitor choices among local and foreign counterparts.

In addition to a comprehensive size range, BenQ claimed that its ultra-thin series models featuring a thinness of only 15mm. With the support from new products, BenQ's LED-monitor production is expected to rise to 60% this year from 40% in 2009. The company also plans to push LED TV products in the second half.

BenQ ranked the No. 3 monitor brand in Taiwan in the fourth quarter of 2009, thanks to sales increases brought by the LED monitors, winning a 17% share of the domestic market, behind Asus and Acer. The company aims to win a market share of over 20% this year, entering the top-two list, by offering more flexible pricing and comprehensive product range.
