Taipei, March 10, 2010 (CENS)--Thanks to the rapidly developing 3D (three-dimension) application market, Taiwan-based Coretronic Corp., a major provider of innovative projection and display solutions, aims to ship record 1.2 million projectors this year.

If things go smoothly, projector sales will account for 26% of Coretronic's revenue to make it continue to be the world's largest projector contract supplier.

The 3D visual revolution is driving more and more companies in Taiwan to push new application products. Optoma Corp. (under the Coretronic Group) and BenQ Corp., for example, are betting on the 3D projectors; Acer Inc. and Asustek Computer Inc. are turning their eyes on 3D notebook PCs; while AmTRAN Technology, Co. Ltd. is scheduled to push 3D TV sets soon.

According to DisplaySearch, the worldwide leader in display market research and consulting, global shipments of 3D monitors will grow rapidly from about 700,000 units in 2008 (revenue US$902 million) to 196 million units in 2018 (US$2.2 billion) with major application in 3D TV.

Coretonic's spokesperson Wen Hui-ping said that the market of 3D products began emerging in the second half of 2009, driving many hardware suppliers to jump unto the bandwagon in the first phase. More and more software players in the new field are expected to catch up with to jointly expand the 3D application market, she added.

According to Wen, all of Coretronic's projector models produced on ODM (original developer manufacturer) basis this year are added with built-in 3D functions. With the support from Disney company and Texas Instrument's 3D-enabled digital light processing (DLP) chips, the 3D market is expected to boom this year, she said.

In 2009, Coretronic's projector business accounted for 26% of the company's total revenue of NT$77 billion (US$2.4 billion at US$1: NT$31.9), and the ratio is expected to further increase this year.

Optoma is currently the world's largest DLP projector brand. Six of 10 in the company's projector models scheduled to be pushed this year are 3D-enbled.
