Taipei, June 9, 2010 (CENS)--Struggling to retain its lead in Taiwan as contract manufacturer of notebook PCs, Compal Electronics Corp. recently raised this year's shipment goal to over 50 million NBs from the original 48 million.

Compal president J.T. Chen says his company will see shipments of NBs in the second half of this year grow 10% up to 15% from the first half. Based on the projection, the company will 2010 shipments reach between 52.5 million and 53.75 million NBs this year.

The plummeting euro against the greenback enables Compal Chen to predict his company to ship 25 million NBs in the first half of this year. The company is expected to ship 25 million NBs in the first half and the shipments in the second half will grow between 10% and 15% from the first one.

Compal predicted it would see substantial growth in business-type NBs in the second half due to procurement by the U.S. government. The company said its shipment growth came from consumer NBs in the first half but business NBs will be its growth engine in the second half.

Chen anticipated the operating systems will be a decisive factor for the shipment growth in the nascent tablet computers. The company is actively developing such operating systems as Windows, Android and MeeGo with relevant products expected to begin shipping in the third and fourth quarters of this year.
