Taiwan Exports US$10.962 B. of Machinery in First Eight Months

Taipei, Nov. 9, 2010 (CENS)--Taiwan exported US$10.969 billion of machinery in the first eight months of this year, for a 54% year-on-year growth, according to customs-cleared statistics compiled by the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI).

The category of machine tools led with export value reaching US$1.84 billion in the first eight months, up 62.9% from a year earlier. Plastics and rubber processing machinery followed with US$758.15 million, up 66.2%. Special-purpose machinery was third with US$721.32 million, up 64.9%. (See table)

In the first eight months of this year, China was the largest export outlet for Taiwan-made machinery by absorbing US$3.732 billion of the product, up a whopping 98.1% year-on-year and accounting for 34% of the total exports. The U.S. ranked second with US$1.627 billion, up 32% and commanding 14.8%. The third place went to Japan with US$578.74 million, up 15.1% and accounting for 5.3%.

The TAMI's tallies also show Taiwan imported US$16.972 billion of machinery in the first eight months, up 95.6% year-on-year. The category of machinery for IC semiconductor led with import value reaching US$8.219 billion, up 187% from a year earlier and commanding 48.4% of the total imports. Special-purpose machines followed with US$1.443 billion, up 77.6% and accounting for 8.5%. Pumps, fans and compressors were third with US$790.24 million, up 74.8% and commanding 4.7%.

Japan was the island's largest supplier by selling US$6.832 billion of machinery to Taiwan in the first eight months, up 83.1% and commanding 40.3% of the total imports. The U.S. was second with US$3.742 billion, up 130.3% and accounting for 22.1%. China was third with US$1.542 billion, up 73.6% and commanding 9.1%.
