Taiwan's Machinery Exports Surge 53.4% in First 11 Months of 2010
2011/02/10 | By Ben ShenTaipei, Feb. 10, 2011 (CENS)--Taiwan exported US$15.592 billion worth of machinery products in the first 11 months of 2010, representing a 53.4% year-on-year growth, according to customs-cleared statistics compiled by the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI).
In terms of major export items, machine tools ranked first with export value totaling US$2.665 billion in the first 11 months of 2010, up 70% from a year earlier. Plastics and rubber processing machinery came second with US$1.067 billion, up 59.1%. Special-purpose machines took third with US$1.008 billion, up 57%. The fourth place went to the category of pumps, compressors and fans with US$883.61 million, up 47.7%. The fifth place was the category of bearings, gears and ball screws with US$840.91 million, up 76.8%.
Other major export items, in descending order, were valves and parts; papermaking and printing machinery; machine-tool parts and components; textile machinery (excluding sewing machinery); woodworking machinery; sewing machines, leather and shoe-making machines; molds and dies; and food and packaging machines.
In terms of major export destinations, China ranked first by absorbing US$5.316 billion worth of Taiwan-made machinery in the first 11 months of 2010, up 92.6% year-on-year and accounting for 34.1% of the total exports. The U.S. came second with US$2.267 billion, up 33.7% and commanding 14.5%. Japan ranked third with US$821.76 million, up 20.7% and accounting for 5.3%.
Other major export outlets, in descending order, were Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, Indonesia, India, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, Brazil, Turkey, the Philippines, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Australia, Italy, Canada, France, Russia, United Arab Emirate, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Spain, and Finland.
The TAMI's tallies also show Taiwan imported US$24.58 billion worth of machinery products in the first 11 months of 2010, up 82.3% from the corresponding period.
In respect of major import items, the machines for ICs and semiconductors ranked first with import value totaled US$11.924 billion in the first 11 months of 2010, up 133.4% year-on-year and accounting for 48.5% of the total imports. The second place went to special-purpose machines with US$2.091 billion, up 83.7% and commanding 8.5%. The category of pumps, compressors and fans stood at the third place with US$1.109 billion, up 65.8%.
Other major import items, in descending order, were the categories of equipment for materials treatment; engines and parts; machinery parts; machine tools; valves and parts; glassware making machinery; air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment; textile machinery; handling equipment; and plastics and rubber processing machinery.
In terms of major import sources, Japan ranked first by selling US$9.901 billion wroth of machinery to Taiwan in the first 11 months of 2010, up 83.3% and commanding 40.3% of the total imports. The second place went to the U.S. with US$5.328 billion, up 98.1% and accounting for 21.7%. China and Hong Kong together ranked third with US$2.132 billion, up 52% and accounting for 8.7%. Other major import sources, in descending order, were Germany, South Korea, Switzerland, Italy, United Kingdom, and France.
