SuperMicro Builds Asia Pacific Headquarters in Taiwan

2011/03/02 | By Ken Liu

Taipei, March 2, 2011 (CENS)--Server computer maker SuperMicro Computer Inc. of the United States broke ground on Feb. 26 to build its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Taoyuan County in northern Taiwan, kicking off an aggressive investment project that is estimated to create an industrial revenue of NT$60 billion (US$2 billion at US$1:NT$30) in five years for Taiwan.

Founded in 1993 in Silicon Valley, SuperMicro is currently the world's No.4 brand supplier of server computers, trailing only HP, IBM and Dell. It will invite its contract suppliers to set up operation at the headquarters campus and invest NT$5 billion (US$166 million) in initial stage on intellectual properties and technology licensing.

SuperMicro President and Chief Executive Charles Liang pointed out that the investment plan underlines his company's decision to increase outsourcing to Taiwan. Currently, the company's contract suppliers include Wistron Corp. and Universal Scientific Industrial Co.

So far, Ablecom Technology Inc. and Compuware Technology Inc. have pledged to set up facilities in the campus, with Ablecom planning to invest NT$5 billion to establish production lines for server casing.

Liang pointed out that building headquarters in Taiwan means cost efficiency and reflects the brisk development of the Asian markets.
