4 TFT-LCD Panel Makers See Total Revenue Up 2% YoY in Jan.: WitsView

Taipei, March. 4, 2011 (CENS)--The January consolidated sales revenue of the top-four thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) manufacturers in Taiwan reached NT$ 79.49 billion (US$2.65 billion), a 4.8% month-on-month (MoM) decline but an year-on-year (YoY) increase of 2.05%, according to WitsView Technology Corp., a LCD market research firm that provides the latest information on panel price and street price.

Shipments of large-sized, or over-10-inch, TFT-LCD panels in January by the four players dropped 3.3% YoY to 22.5 million units, compared to a 14.1% YoY increase in the same month of 2010.

AU Optronics Corp. (AUO) registered January 2011 revenue of NT$30.19 billion (US$1 billion), a 1.4% MoM decline; Chimei Innolux Corp. NT$40.36 billion, down 9.8% MoM; Chunghwa Picture Tubes, Ltd. (CPT) NT$5.53 billion (US$184.3 million), up 5.4% MoM; and HannStar Display Corp. NT$3.8 billion (US$126.7 million), up 13.1% MoM.

Shipments of large-sized panels by AUO , HannStar and CPT were 9.46 million (up 3.3% MoM), 1.78 million (up 8.5% MoM) and 517,000 units (up 19.7% MoM), respectively. Only ChiMei Innolux reported MoM shipment decline of 10.8% to 10.75 million units.

In terms of small/medium-size panel shipments, AUO, Chimei Innolux, and CPT reported declined volumes, including 14.5 million units (down 15% MoM), 34.43 million (down 14.2% MoM), and 34.24 million (down 7.3% MoM). Only HannStar posted a MoM increase of 8.3% to 25 million units, the display market research firm said.
