Taiwanese NB PC Makers Suffer Revenue Declines in Feb.

2011/03/15 | By Steve Chuang

Taipei, March 15, 2011 (CENS)--Affected by seasonal recessions, Quanta Computer Inc., Wistron Corp. and Inventec Corp., three of the world's top four makers of notebook PCs in Taiwan, all saw their February revenues decline by around 20% from January.

Quanta reported combined revenue of NT$60.049 billion for February, down 21.7% from January or 18.9% from last February, with aggregate combined revenue for the first two months of this year amounting to NT$136.721 billion, 11.3% less than a year earlier.

The firm shipped only 3.2 million notebook PCs in February, slipping 23.8% from 4.2 million units in January, mainly because of Chinese New Year holidays. But, the firm's shipment will rebound strongly along with new notebook PCs built with Intel's fixed Sandy Bridge chipsets to be delivered in March.

Also, Wistron's combined revenue shrank by 14.33% year-on-year to NT$36.698 billion in February. And its aggregate combined revenue for the first two months of the year came to NT$82.274 billion, down 7.65% from a year earlier.

However, institutional investors also believe that Wistron will soon get back on track, with sales revenue and shipment starting to simmer in March. Hopefully, the firm is expected to score annual shipment of between 35 million and 37 million units to remain among the world's top three manufacturers of this kind this year.

Inventec saw its sales revenue for February fall 16.64% month-on-month or 17.71% year-on-year to NT$23.027 billion. The firm's aggregate sales revenue for the first two months of the year declined by 9.89% to NT$50.653 billion from a year earlier.

Having yet to disclose its financial statement for February, Compal Electronics Inc., one of the four leading notebook PC makers, has also been expected to suffer a revenue decline of 20% at least.
