Johnson Remains World's 4th-Largest Fitness Gear Maker
2011/05/19 | By Judy LiTaipei, May 19, 2011 (CENS)--Johnson Health Technology Co., Taiwan's leading fitness and gym equipment maker, posted revenues of US$369 million in 2010, remaining the world's fourth-largest fitness gear maker, trailing Icon and Life, both U.S.-based fitness and gym equipment giants, as well as Italy-based Technogym.
Fitness equipment is generally for household and commercial applications, with Icon being the top provider of the former, Life leading the latter segment, and Johnson ranking second in the household segment and No. 4 in commercial-use fitness gear.
In 2009 Johnson scored revenues of US$304 million, outpacing Nautilus, also an American firm, to be the world's fourth largest maker. Last year the company's revenues further surged 21.6%.
Johnson's largest market is North America, followed by Europe and Asia, and this year the company plans to expand into East Europe and Central and South Americas, targeting Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela, Costa Rica, and Argentina, and has found sales agents in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia and Poland.
K.C. Lo, the chairman, said that the firm has added fitness and gym clubs to its client base, including Smart Fit in Brazil, Yogawave and Total Fitness in Shanghai, China, Aquaboulvard in France and Gold's Gym and Snap in India.
The company has also recently acquired the sales channels in Carrefour in France and Spain; Karstadt and Kaufhof in Germany; JJB, Powerhouse, and John Lewis in Britain; Go-Sport in France; as well as Sport Zone in Spain.
