Hon Hai Will Build Five New Factories in Brazil in Five Years

2012/02/02 | By Philip Liu

Taipei, Feb. 2, 2012 (CENS)--In response to the strong demand for iPad tablet PCs, Hon Hai Group has reportedly planned to build five new factories in Brazil in five years.

Hon Hai spokesman refused to comment on the report yesterday (Feb. 1). Terry Guo, chairman of Hon Hai, revealed at the business inauguration ceremony for the new year this Monday that Hon Hai’s managerial staffers stationed in Brazil had returned to Taiwan for convening a Brazilian investment conference. \

Brazilian media Folha de S. Paulo cited a remark by a Brazilian official in charge, saying that Foxconn, under Hon Hai Group, is planning to build five new factories in Brazil.

In addition to iPad and iPhone of Apple, the five new factories will also be dedicated to the production of notebook PCs and other electronic products, with annual output of various products reaching 40 million units. Each factory will be furnished with a workforce of 1,000.

Terry Guo revealed previously that Brazilian investment will be one of the group’s most important projects this year. He expressed confidence of achieving over 15% sales growth this year.

During a visit to China last year, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff announced that Hon Hai will set up factories in Brazil for the production of iPad and other hi-tech products, with total investment value reaching US$12 billion.

Terry Guo noted that Hon Hai will establish a complete supply chain, rather than just assembly production lines, in Brazil.

The Brazilian government approved last week tax incentives for investments by Hon Hai in the country.
